Include interest provisions in your contract - unpaid invoices can grow quickly if interest is added.   California allows 10% interest per year per Cal. Civ. C. § 3289.

Adding an attorneys' fees provision in your business contract for collecting on unpaid accounts is another great way to add "teeth" to unpaid accounts.

Offer various ways to get paid.  Some clients don't feel comfortable putting a check in the mail so offering payment via online credit card or Zelle/Venmo can increase your chances of closing out back due accounts.
